About us

English College is a well established, private language school based in central Poland. The school was founded in 1995 and has been growing ever since. Now, with over 800 students each academic year, we are one of the leading schools in the area.

Since the early days we have specialised in teaching English to children, teenagers and adults, offering quality language courses. The tfive centres: Radom, ozienice, Iłża, Zwolen and Pionki have very modern and well equipped premises, among which there is an EFL library, available to both teachers' and students' disposal. The collection includes over 2000 single items full of teaching and learning aids.

Location

Our centres are based in Radom and 4 little towns: Kozienice, Iłża, Pionki and Zwoleń, situated on the outskirts of "Kozienice National Park", very quiet area far from city noise and pollution. Most of our teachers including Native Speakers live in Radom, a city with a population of 250 000. Travelling is easy due to very good and fast connections and takes approximately 30-40 min.

Radom is a typical Polish city situated in the centre of the country. There are many places you can go out and relax in town. If you ever feel like a change, there are some really nice places around here. Towns such as Kazimierz attract visitors from all over the world. Major cities like Warsaw or Cracow are only 2-3 hours by coach or train. During the extensive breaks (2 weeks around Christmas, 2 weeks in February and a week around Easter) you can go to the sea side or the beautiful Polish mountains full of holiday resorts, offering a wide variety of activities for tourists.

Curriculum

General info
We teach English to children, teenagers and adults in groups of maximum 12 students, on all levels (see COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK) from beginner to advanced. The groups are selected according to the students' age and level of proficiency (see FLYING COLOURS).

We enrol students in September, who stay in our school until mid-June. During that time they have 62, 93 or 124 hours of classroom instruction, depending on the type of course. The classes usually take place in the afternoons and evenings from 2.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. from Monday to Friday. The exception are 'In-company' lessons, often held in the mornings and afternoons.

The whole process is supervised by our Administrative Director and the Director of Studies, both experienced EFL teachers, providing our teachers with maximum support in successful curriculum development and performance.

Dual Method
The school curriculum is based on this 'Dual Method' of teaching. Our students come to school twice a week and usually have four 45 minutes` lessons per week, combined into two 90 minutes` sessions. One session is with a Native Speaker and the other with a Polish teacher.

There are some exceptions like classes of absolute beginners, who are taught by Polish teachers only. On the other hand, the most advanced classes, as well as 'Business English' classes, are taught exclusively by Native Speakers.

Children aged 9 - 12 usually have two 45 minutes' lessons per week with a Polish teacher, and one conversation class with a Native Speaker.

Younger children aged 6 - 8 have two lessons a week, and are usually taught by Polish teachers only. For those with some basic knowledge of English we organize play groups with Native Speakers

The idea behind our dual system is that the Polish teacher is a primary grammarian and the Native Speaker concentrates on communication skills, with emp hasis on speaking. Both, Native Speakers and Polish teachers very closely cooperate during the course sharing lots of responsibilities such as: preparing syllabuses, testing, checking and evaluating students' written assignments, developing EFL materials and making trimester reports.

'COURSES'
Apart from 'General English' we also offer 'Business English Courses', and 'Exam Preparation Courses'. These include Cambridge FCE; CAE; CPE; as well as Business English Certificate Exams: Preliminary, Vantage and Higher.

In order to create the unique character of the school we have introduced so called extra-activity classes run by our Native Speakers. These include discussion club, singing and drama classes and others, according to our teachers' personal abilities. There are also special events like Halloween and Christmas parties, shows, quizzes etc. These are meant to introduce culture and traditions of English-speaking countries, and make the learning process as efficient as possible.
